Going Global Launches New Housing Initiative
Going Global, Mosaic Church, and First Presbyterian Church of Clarksville, TN have joined forces to help solve the affordable housing problem for moderate to low-income families in Clarksville, TN.
The three entities have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding to form a new non-profit organization that has been named the “Going Local Initiative” (GLI). This is the first time in Clarksville’s history that such a partnership has been formed between faith-based organizations.
The purpose of the Going Global Initiative is the rehabilitation and new construction of affordable housing for rent or homeownership by low to moderate-income people. One of the first actions of the newly formed organization was to seek to become an official Community Housing Development Organization (CHDO). This allows GLI to qualify for state and local dollars that will assist with building projects.
The CHDO was awarded by the City of Clarksville Neighborhood and Community Services Department on December 8th, 2021, and presented by Mayor Joe Pitts to the newly formed organization on December 16th in a formal meet and greet that took place at Mosaic Church. Mayor Joe & Cynthia Pitts and members of the Neighborhood and Community Services Department were in attendance. Representatives from all partner organizations were present to accept the CHDO certificate.
Going Local Initiative will be launching its first projects in 2022 and will be developing and collaborating with other non-profits for wrap-around services to ensure sustainability for recipients. GLI will focus on single-parent households with a goal of expanding into Senior Adult housing as well.
